National Historic Landmark -Cupola House
National Historic Landmark -Cupola House
Built c. 1725 and remodeled in 1756-58, this structure is an outstanding example of a timber-framed residence illustrating the transition from 17th century Jacobean to 18th century Georgian architectural styles.
In all the southern colonies, it is the only extant house that carries a Jacobean overhang at the second story.
The roof is crowned by an octagonal wood cupola, thus its name.
