National Historic Landmark-Fort Rock, Oregon

The earliest occupation of the site dates to 11,000 BC; -the Fort Rock sandals-, oldest manufactured articles found in the Western Hemisphere, were discovered here.

They demonstrate an early knowledge by American Indians of weaving.
