National Historic Landmark - Fort Yellowstone

Fort Yellowstone was built by the army to administer and protect the natural resources of Yellowstone, America's first national park. The army remained in the park from 1888 to 1918, longer than in any other park. At Yellowstone, the soldiers not only provided vital protection for the natural resources, but also developed principles and policies of scientific observations, interpretation, and concessions management that were influential in the subsequent establishment of the National Park System.
