National Historic Landmark - Herbert & Katherine Jacobs 1st House

The Jacobs house is the first Usonian home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright that was built based on the principle of providing an artistic house of low cost for an average citizen. The Jacobs house stands out in Wright’s work as an outstanding example of a low cost yet thoroughly aesthetic dwelling that marked a turning point in the evolution of Wright’s residential work. By 1959, he had designed 308 Usonian homes of which 140 were built across the country.
