National Historic Landmark- J. Peter Lesley House

From 1869 until 1896, this was the residence and office of J. Peter Lesley (1819-1903), one of America's foremost geologists of that day.

Mr. Lesley served as Geologist for the State of Pennsylvania and Director of the Second Geological Survey of Pennsylvania from 1874 to 1896, and it was here that he did considerable scientific writing and drawing related to the survey, and reviewed and edited all of the reports--amounting to 120 volumes--produced by his assistants over the 20-year period.
