National Historic Landmark- James A. Garfield Home

From 1876 until his death at the hands of an assassin, Lawnfield was the residence of James Abram Garfield (1831-1881), 20th President of the United States.

In 1880, Garfield was selected by the Republican Party as its candidate for the presidency after 36 ballots; he ran his campaign from this house, composing many of his campaign speeches in the second floor study.
