National Historic Landmark- Kit Carson House

National Historical Landmark-Kit Carson House

From 1843 until his death, this was the home of Christopher Kit Carson (1809-1868), American frontiersman and legendary hero of the Old West.

A contemporary who knew him well once said that he was -first in every quality which constitutes excellence in a mountaineer.

Carson purchased this U-shaped, Spanish Colonial structure when he married Josefa Jaramillo, the daughter of a leading family of Taos.
