National Historical Landmark- Montgomery Place

Overlooking the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains beyond, Montgomery Place is a unique survival of the Romantic vision of mid-19th century America.

Through the efforts of architect Alexander Jackson Davis, the original staid, formal Federal style home (1805) was transformed into an inviting neoclassical country place. During the years Davis worked on the exterior of the mansion (1841-1864), the surrounding landscape was also transformed, in part by landscape architect A.J. Downing, creating a complex pleasure grounds for this country seat.

Multiple buildings are located on the property, including four by A.J. Davis.
