National Historic Landmark- Pennsylvania Hospital
Authorized by the Pennsylvania legislature in 1751 and at its present location since 1756, this is the earliest established public hospital in the country.
Conceived by Dr. Thomas Bond, an eminent Philadelphia physician of the 18th century, it was established with the support of Benjamin Franklin, who wrote a promotional fundraising booklet, Some Account of the Pennsylvania Hospital.
