National Historic Landmark-Philadelphia Contributionship

 

In 1752, Benjamin Franklin helped organize the Philadelphia Contributionship for the Insurance of Houses from Loss by Fire, the first fire insurance compnay in the United States and a pioneer institution in the development of the insurance business.

Since 1836, this 3 1/2 story red brick house has been the company headquarters.
