National Historic Landmark -Village of Mariemont

Distinctive for its cohesive plan that incorporates both formal and informal elements and its overall landscape design that encompasses a network of parks and tree-lined streets and avenues, the Village of Mariemont is an outstanding model of American garden-city design (1923-1960).

The work of preeminent and pioneering American planner and garden-city practitioner John Nolen and his associate Philip Foster, the village is the most complete, comprehensive, and intact example of Nolan's community designs.

Stemming from the financial support and like-minded vision of Cincinnati philanthropist Mary Emery and her advisor Charles Livingood, the community also represents one of the nation's most notable philanthropic efforts to relieve the housing shortage after World War One and to provide a model for reforming the character of American housing and neighborhoods for working-class families.

The NHL was designated December 15, 2006.
