National Historic Landmark- Walnut Street Theatre

This is one of the oldest surviving theaters in the country.

Opened in 1809 as the Olympic Theater, the building was originally a circus; legitimate drama was being presented here after 1811.

Most of the major figures of the American stage, including Sarah Bernhardt, Ellen Terry, Sir Henry Irving, Richard Mansfield, John Drew, and Maude Adams, appeared on this stage.
