National Historic Landmark - Woolworth Building

National Historic Landmark - Woolworth Building

From its completion in 1913 until 1930, this building was the world's tallest.

It stands today as a monument not only to Frank W. Woolworth, originator of the variety chain-store, but also to its architect, Cass Gilbert.

He won acclaim for his use of Gothic forms and detail, well adapted to the soaring verticality of the skyscraper.
