New Castle and Frenchtown Railroad

1832–1853

One of the earliest in the United States, the line ran from New Castle on the Delaware River, crossed the highway here, and extended to Frenchtown on the Elk River 1 1/2 miles west of this point.

Marker is at the intersection of Augustine Herman Highway (Maryland Route 213) and Lewis Shore Road, on the right when traveling south on Augustine Herman Highway.
