Officer's Quarters (106)
This frame officer's quarters in the only one of seven built between 1883 and 1886 to have survived without significant modifications. Like many of the post's residences, it was built around a large central hallway that runs the length of the house. This hallway aided circulation during the summer months and also allowed for flexibility in the residence's use: it could be used as a dormitory for bachelor officers, divided to house two officers with small families, or occupied exclusively by the large family of a high-ranking officer.
A picket fence originally ran along the front yards of all the houses of Officers' Row, with a boardwalk and kerosene lamppost separating them from the dirt road. The neat domestic appearance of these houses helped to reinforce the small town atmosphere of the post. An extensive rehabilitation of this building was completed in 1999.
