Original Town Poplar Bluff

This site marks northwest corner of original town platted in 1849. Poplar Bluff, named for beautiful tulip poplars on bluffs overlooking Black River, became county seat of Butler County in 1849 and was incorporated on February 9, 1870.

Marker is at the intersection of West Pine Street (U.S. 60) and North 8th Street, on the right when traveling east on West Pine Street.
