The Osceola Country Club (tour stop 3)

3. Henry Moore and Gretchen Gregory left the Gregory home on the evening of Friday January 30, 1931 in the roadster coupe, headed for this location, the Osceola Municipal Golf Course. Founded in 1926 as a country club, the course was on the west side of Pensacola, across town from Gretchen’s home.

Joyriding was a popular pastime for young people in 1931, and they looked for any excuse to go anywhere in a car. It was much more fun if you could venture beyond the crowded, slow-moving city streets and put the accelerator down on the open road. There’s no mention of Henry and Gretchen getting out of the car at the Osceola Club. The lovebirds next destination? The Saenger Theater on Palafox where "Painted Desert" was playing. We pick up the tour there.
