The Painted Desert (tour stop 4)

4. As Henry Moore said to Gretchen Gregory drove past the Osceola Country Club, Henry turned to his date and said, “Gretchen there is a good picture on the show tonight. Would you like to go?"

To which she replied, “I wouldn’t mind.” So here we find the star-crossed pair, at the Saenger Theater in downtown Pensacola sometime around 8:00 pm and joined other moviegoers for a screening of "The Painted Desert" starring Billy Boyd. Set against the colorful backdrop of the Arizona Desert, the movie depicts the feud between two cowboys trying to raise an orphan. Storylines were different back then.

The Saenger Theater opened in April 1925 providing live entertainment and moving pictures predominantly for Pensacola's wealthier citizens. According to Gregory, the movie let out about 9:30 pm and the pair got sandwiches and coffee before heading out to Scenic Highway and Magnolia Bluff, our next stop.
