Reed Gold Mine State Historic Site
Gold discovered there 1799. Many gold mines were later operated in this area. N.C. was the chief gold-mining state to 1849. N. 4 mi.
Marker is at the intersection of North Carolina Route 24/27 and Reed Mine Road, on the right when traveling west on State Route 24/27.
