Revolutionary Skirmish Near Tearcoat Branch

On the night of October 25, 1780, Col. Francis Marion with 150 men surprised and completely routed 200 Torries under Col. Samuel Tynes near here. Marion's forces suffered no casualties. With the dispersion of Tynes's troops, Lord Cornwallis became apprehensive of losing British supplies on the Santee River.

Marker is on Brewington Road (State Road 14-50), on the right when traveling west.
