Richmond Defences
The Outer Line
Here stood part of the outer line of the Confederate defences of Richmond, built in 1862-64. On the right the line crossed Brook Road and ran North and South along the ridge where Emmanuel church stands. On the left it extended four miles Westward, thence South to James River.
Marker is at the intersection of Westbrook Avenue and Hermitage Road (Virginia Route 161), on the right when traveling west on Westbrook Avenue.
