Park visitor centers were the central planning and design element of the National Park Service's Mission 66 program. The Rocky Mountain National Park Administration Building (1967) was one of the most important commissions (other than those initiated by Wright himself) for Taliesen Associated Architects in the early years of the firm, during the critical time following the death of Frank Lloyd Wright in 1959. This building further legitimized the use of modern architecture in the parks. It was a powerful and influential example of how modern construction techniques and architectural style could be appropriate and successful for national park development.
