Established 1869 on reservation of Sac and Fox Indians who were moved here from Kansas. Reservation land allotted tribal members and surplus opened to White settlement in 1891. Noted members of the tribe include Chief Moses Keokuk, Dr. William Jones, anthropologist, and Jim Thorpe, internationally known athlete.

Marker is at the intersection of Main Street (Oklahoma Route 66) and 2nd Avenue, on the left when traveling west on Main Street.
