Smiths Ferry

Oil boom town in 1860s-1870s. Oil shipped here on trains and river boats from wells in the Upper Dry Run and Island Run oilfields. Town had a hotel store post office and train station. All gone today. Rockport School remains. Neaby Glasgow had oil refineries.

Marker is at the intersection of Midland Road (Pennsylvania Route 68/168) and Smiths Ferry Road, on the right when traveling east on Midland Road.
