Spotsylvania Campaign
This road leads to the Landram House ruin. In the days of the Civil War it was a small whitewashed dwelling built of squared logs and heated by stone-chimneyed fireplaces. From similar modest homesteads, North and South, had spring Abraham Lincoln and other leaders. On the 12th of May, 1864, the place was overrun by Lincoln's legions. During the severe fighting of that day, it became Gen. W.S. Hancock's headquarters as well as a hospital area and artillery park. Where only a few rural boots had trod, the feet of thousands churned the soil that wet and bloody day.
