St. John's Episcopal Church

St. John's Episcopal Church parish was founded in 1890, but the church was not built until 1897. The first services were held Feb. 20, 1898. The design of the church is copied from one in Como, Canada, where the Hodgson family formerly lived. The Hodgsons became one of the first families of St. John's. Funds for building the church were raised by having musicals, plays and Valentine day entertainments at the casino on Guava Avenue and at parishioners' homes. The interior beams of the church are shaped in the form of an inverted ark, the symbol of salvation.

Marker is on Young Street.
