St. Paul Catholic Church and School

St. Paul Catholic Church, located on Hyde Park Road off Scenic Highway, is both a Catholic Church and a private school for up to eighth grade. Construction of the original sanctuary started in 1963, but until its completion, Father Frank Giri held masses at a home on Bayou Boulevard.

In August 1964, St. Paul opened its doors to 162 elementary school students, grades first through fifth. A year later, the school expanded the grades up to eighth grade. St. Paul Catholic School was the first air-conditioned school in Pensacola.

St. Paul combined congregations with Our Savior Catholic Church and decided to construct a new sanctuary in 2004 before Hurricane Ivan hit the Gulf Coast. In 2008, the church opened its doors for its dedication ceremony led by Bishop John Ricard. The new sanctuary sat 1,200 parishioners and twelve-foot Gothic style front doors.

Not only does St. Paul associate itself with the church and private school, but also it is also active with Habitat for Humanity, Women's Society, Men's Club, Youth Group, church choir, music programs, and Parish Council. The church still houses a tight community of Catholics and the school still active with students and parents.
