The Swan Tavern

The Swan Tavern is a reconstruction that stands on the original foundations.   One of the characteristics of colonial Yorktown was the large number of its inns and taverns. The Swan Tavern soon became the main tavern in Yorktown after it opened for business in 1722.   It remained in service until just before the Civil War.  In 1863, the original Swan Tavern was destroyed, along with the Yorktown Court House in a munitions explosion.
