The First Presbyterian Church of Charleston

Organized 1731 / Incorporated 1784

Originally founded by twelve Scottish families, it was familiarly known in its early history as the Scots' Kirk.

The present church replaced an earlier one, which had been enlarged once before the American Revolution and twice afterwards.

This building was damaged severely by the earthquake of 1886 and to a lesser extent by the tornado of 1938.

Marker is at the intersection of Meeting Street and Tradd Street, on the right when traveling south on Meeting Street.
