The Hanley Falls Railroad "Y"

In 1901 the Supreme Court of the United States ordered the installation of a transfer track between the Great Northern Railroad, now the Burlington Northern, and the Minneapolis & St. Louis Railroad, now the Chicago and Northwestern.

This facility made possible the transferring of rail cars from one line to the other, for the benefit of railroad patrons, and was the first such transfer in the United States. It is known locally as the railroad “Y”.

Marker is at the intersection of 3rd Avenue West and 3rd Street North on 3rd Avenue West.
