The "Lost Neighborhood"
In the 1970s, construction of the new Interstate 110 corridor uprooted the east side community.
Known as the Lost Neighborhood, the construction dispersed residents of the east side throughout Pensacola. Unfortunately, as a result of the corridor expansion, Pensacola lost many local businesses, residences and churches from the once vibrant, east side neighborhood.
This local example exemplifies the impact expansion of the U.S. Highway system has on the various facets of the community.
