The Ransom of Hagerstown

The Hagerstown Bank stood at this site until it was demolished in the mid-1930s. The current Hagerstown Trust Bank is a direct descendant of the Hagerstown Bank. The bank's Board of Directors, led by President James Dixon Rodman, took the lead in gathering the ransom money to spare the town from being burned by the Confederates in 1864.

Marker is on West Washington Street, on the right when traveling east.
