The South Battery

1790             1826

Erected during the War of 1812 to guard Buttermilk Channel. Used as a barracks for the fife and drum corps of the garrison from 1836 until the first officers’ mess was established here June 20, 1879.

Reorganized as the Officers’ Club

February 3, 1881
