Thomas Wharton, Jr.
First President of the Supreme Executive
Council of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
and Captain General and Commander-in-Chief in and over the same
on March 5, 1777
Died in Office, greatly lamented May 23, 1778.
At the request of the vestry , his remains were buried within
this church east of this tablet erected by the present vestry
July 4th, 1887
Marker is on S. Duke Street north of E. Mifflin Street, on the left when traveling south.
