From the wreck of the Spanish Cruiser Castilla, Sunk by the American Squadron under Commodore George Dewey, in the Battle of Manila Bay, May 1st, 1898.

American Squadron. Commodore George Dewey: Olympia, Baltimore, Boston, Raleigh, Concord, Hugh McCullough, Petrel.

Spanish Squadron. Rear Admiral Montojo y Pasaron: Maria Cristina, Marquis del Duero, Castilla, Manila, Isla de Cuba, Isla de Mindanao, Isla de Luzon, Don Antonio de Ulloa, Don Juan de Austria, General Lezo and Shore Batteries.

Presented to the City of Rochester by the Hon. Oscar F. Williams, U.S. Consul at Manila, and an eyewitness of the battle from the bridge of the Olympia. Erected June 14, 1902, by the Board of Park Commissioners through its committee, Henry C. Maine, H.F. Atwood, Pres. E.M. Moore. Calvin C. Laney, Supt. Edwin A. Fisher, City Eng. Wm M. Rebasz, Dr.

Marker is at the intersection of South Avenue and Reservoir Ave, on the right when traveling north on South Avenue.
