U.S. National Leprosarium Dormitories

These dormitories were built in 1940 at the site of the U.S. National Leprosarium, the only inpatient hospital for research and treatment of Hansen's Disease (Leprosy). The facility provided a home for 4,500 victims of Hansen's Disease, once considered to be highly contagious, and sponsored research that led to innovative treatments that freed patients from life at an institution.

The National Hansen's Disease Museum and Archive is located on this campus.
