Union Hall
Local entrepreneur Frank Lane constructed this building in 1860. A Boston architect, George Harding, designed it as a venue for traveling and local theater productions and community receptions. It was also used for basketball in the 1940s and 50s before the school had a court. The Town Office located here in 1964. The photographs show the original interior and the exterior with tennis court. One can see the hose tower in the fire house in the upper right corner. Fire hoses were made of fiber and had to be drained in the winter, before they froze. The tower allowed them to be reeled high enough so they could drain and be ready for the next time. The original bell tower on the Congregational Church is also visible.
