This site possesses national significance

in commemorating the history of the

United States of America

Associated with the American Labor Movement since the

1930's, this building served for over two decades as

organized labor's command post under the stewardship

of United Mine Workers of America President John I. Lewis

and continued as the UMWA's headquarters until 2000.

Marker is at the intersection of 15th Street NW and I Street NW, on the right when traveling south on 15th Street NW.
