First organized town in the Ohio Valley. Formed in 1787. First court of Ohio County met at Black's Cabin here in 1777. Near by is grave of Captain Samuel, hero of the Pennsylvania and Virginia frontiers.

Marker is on Chatham Street (West Virginia Route 88) east of Girty's Point Road (County Route 7/4), on the right when traveling west.
