WTVJ/Capitol Theater

The Capitol Theater opened in 1926 as the first of the Wometco Theater chain, a company founded by Mitchell Wolfson, Sr., and his brother-in-law, Sidney Meyer. In 1949, the Capitol was converted into the studios of WTVJ, Florida's first TV station. Wolfson, son of Key West pioneers, was the first Jewish mayor of Miami Beach.
